Giraffe Centre

Giraffe Centre is one of Nairobi's best known conservation attractions and is operated by the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife Kenya. The centre was established around conservation and environmental education, with Rothschild's giraffes at the heart of the visitor experience.

Visitors can observe giraffes at close range from designated viewing areas while learning about their biology, conservation and the wider role of environmental education. The experience is particularly suitable for families, first time visitors to Nairobi and travellers who want a meaningful wildlife activity without leaving the city for a full safari day.

Giraffe Centre combines very well with Nairobi National Park and the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Nairobi Nursery. Together, these can form a full Nairobi wildlife and conservation day before or after a longer Kenya safari.

Rothschild's giraffes are the principal conservation focus. The experience is educational and should be approached as a conservation visit rather than a conventional safari game drive.

The grounds can support local birdlife, though birdwatching is secondary to giraffe conservation and environmental education.

Nairobi's mild highland climate makes the centre comfortable for much of the year. Sun protection and light rain protection are useful depending on season.
